2021.09.19 03:22 ThePinkTeenager [Prose- In-text] "A Miracle Drug Called Placebo"

I was plugging away at my work when I heard a knock on the door. "Come in." I said, thinking it was a volunteer or the secretary.
Instead, a couple in their forties walked in. I recognized them as my cousin and his wife.
"Mike and Tammy?" I asked. "Hi. Didn't expect to see you here."
"I know." said Mike. "Sorry for interrupting. We tried going to your house, but you weren't home and-"
"I get it." I cut him off. "What I want to know is why you're here."
"My pain's getting worse." said Tammy. She certainly looked like she was in pain.
"I'm sorry, but I'm an anthropologist, not a doctor." I said sympathetically.
"You've studied the 20th and 21st centuries, haven't you?" she asks.
"I'm studying them right now, why?"
"Because I've heard they had a miraculous drug called the placebo back then."
"Even if they did, it would've been destroyed during the Catastrophe. I can't find a pill that hasn't existed for 400 years."
"Please?" Tammy begs. "It hurts."
I look at Tammy. She's not the only one who could use a placebo right now. My daughter Fiona tore a ligament in her knee the other day. She needed surgery and the recovery is pretty painful. I felt awful for going to work the day after Fiona's surgery, but we need the money.
"Okay." I said. "I'll see what I can find about the placebo. In the meantime, do you have a place to stay?"
"We rented a motel room."
"Good. Let me know if you need anything."
"Thank you." say Mike and Tammy as they left the room.
I leaned back in my chair. "I hope this doesn't take too long." I commented. "Lucas would be mad if he had to do my work because I was looking for the goddamn placebo."
I ignored that small problem and searched my files for the word "placebo". Judging from the hundreds of research papers that mention it, it was a commonly used drug. Then I realized something: maybe I couldn't buy the placebo, but if I find the ingredients, I could make one. So I searched for its ingredients. That information was difficult to find, but eventually, I compiled a list of ingredients.
How the heck did they come up with this? I wondered. Whatever; I was just glad they did. I already had one of the ingredients- sugar. I couldn't get pure lactose, so evaporated milk would have to do. Minerals, cellulose, saline, and empty capsules could be ordered from a pharmacist. The only thing left was olive oil, which I couldn't afford. It must've been cheaper before the Catastrophe- I see it in recipes sometimes. So I looked up olive oil's chemical profile and picked an oil with a similar makeup- sunflower oil. That's also on the expensive side, but not as expensive as olive oil. Then I went home and tried to make this thing.
At home, I encountered another problem: I had no idea how to make this thing. I knew what's in the placebo, but not how to put those things together. So I was going to have to guess.
Since I'm not a chemist, I looked at this the way a chef would. Logically, the bulk of this recipe would be saline and cellulose. A contemporary slang term for the placebo was "sugar pills," so maybe sugar was a major component as well. Honestly, I'd have to make multiple versions and hope one of them is correct.
During this process, I heard a voice. "Mom," said Fiona, "what are you doing?"
I turned around and saw my daughter sitting on a chair with her crutches next to her. "As crazy as this sounds, I'm trying to make the placebo."
Fiona looked at me eagerly. "Can I help?" she asked.
"Sure, sweetie." I said. I handed her the sugar, evaporated milk, and cellulose in measuring cups, a large bowl, and a spoon. "Mix these together."
Fiona poured the ingredients into the bowl and did exactly that. In a moment of idiocy, I tried to mix saline and oil. When that didn't work, I smacked my face and gave the oil to Fiona.
Once she was done mixing, I poured the saline and minerals into the bowl and mixed until it was all a homogeneous slop. Then I sterilized it in the microwave to make sure it didn't spoil, put it in the capsule shells, and sealed it.
Before I gave the pills to anyone, I took one myself to make sure it's safe. When I woke up the next morning with no side effects, I declared them safe. The people of the 21st century had basically done the safety testing for me. Now I needed to know if it was effective.
"On a scale of one to ten, how much does your knee hurt right now?" I asked my daughter.
"Seven." she answered.
That wasn't the worst it had been, but still not good. "Remember the placebo pills we made yesterday?"
"Well, I'm going to give one of them to you."
"What if one's not enough?"
"Then I'll give you another one."
I gave her the pill and a glass of water. She swallowed both, then asked me for breakfast. I had no idea if the placebo could be taken with food, but I was already making breakfast. So I gave her food and ate my own.
Before I left for work, I asked Fiona how much her knee hurt. "Uh... four and a half." she said.
I smiled. "That's great." I said. "Hopefully it works for Tammy, too."
"Is Tammy okay?"
I thought about how to answer that question. "She's in a lot of pain because of her disease. But she's not in the hospital or anything, if that's what you're worried about."
"Okay." said Fiona. "See you later, Mom."
"See you later."

2021.09.19 03:22 shader_lowkey_games HELP! Experiencing unstable performance or fps stutter/drop all of a sudden. Unlike before Im having a stable performance.

HI, Im new to this gaming PC thing but I've been studying and been playing for a year now! Been playing games with RivaTuner locking it with 60fps or 70fps with 72Hz monitor. After updating 'Game Ready Driver 471.41' a few months back, I never tried updating to the latest driver again because I'm already satisfied with performance.
But yesterday Im having an issue launching a game when the screen went 'blackout' after luanch and it takes forever and it keeps happening every time after booting the pc but the game will launch after relaunching the game. Im starting to see an issue then decided to update the LATEST GPU driver '471.96' at same time another Windows version has to force update itself. Then after the update im starting to see a different performance like NEVER BEFORE.
Im able to stablelized 60fps or 70fps or higher and now it drops till 50fps every second of gaming. Now I dont mind playing 50fps or 20fps but what's been bothering me is the sudden fps drop or stuttering with a nice PC rig.
I hate it when PC behave on its own and I dont know or understand on how to fix it.
SPECS: GPU: MSI Nvidia RTX 2060 (not SUPER)
CPU: Ryzen 3 3300x 4ghz (it should be fine but will be upgraded)
RAM: 3200mhz 16gb (2×8) (new)
SDD: Crucial P2 500GB PCIe M.2 (1yearold)
I Also TRIED these STEPS:

REINSTALLING GPU USING DDU- still performing bad
NO GPU OVERCLOCKING- still performing bad
INGAME QUALITY ARE ALL SET TO HIGH/VERY HIGH (NO ULTRA)- still fps is dropping like an low end pc.
XMP BIOS ARE ACTIVATED- still performing bad
CPU AND GPU TEMPERATURE IDLE: 30°C- 40°C, GAMING: 55°C- 70°C- this should be a worry but this is the same temperature I get during before this issue occurs.
Now I haven't tried reinstalling GPU driver again back to where it was when the game was performing well. But in my theory it could be a hardware issue or the new Windows update so I need your suggestions so I can enjoy my life again. And I have to admit I have a terrible English so I apologize for not being a native speaker.

Hi, Everyone,
I have a problem in focus group testing. For the registered focus group testers, when clicked the link available in "Pricing and Availability", the "Get" button appears in the web browser. Then when "Get" button clicked. Nothing happens. All three browsers fail a like. Chrome. Bing. Firefox.
This is very frustrating since all test users are asked to test using this link. And it is NOT working.
Anyone had the same problems?
